Port Angeles, where our wedding will be held, is a small city or large town northwest of Seattle, on the other side of the Puget Sound. While it's not that far as the crow flies, very few of us are crows, and all that water makes it hard to drive straight there. If you fly in to Seatac airport (SEA) you have a number of choices in how to get to Port Angeles. My personal favorite option, though it's fairly expensive, is Kenmore Air. This small puddlejumper airline (literally; they use seaplanes for some of their runs) runs prop-driven planes between Boeing Field (a few minutes drive from Seatac) and Fairchild International Airport in Port Angeles. They have a free and convenient shuttle which will pick you up at Seatac and take you to Boeing Field. It's worth noting that they're currently working with Alaska Air to be able to schedule flights straight through to PA - you'll still have to change planes and everything in Seattle, but only have to schedule one trip. This doesn't appear to be active yet, but it's worth checking on.
There's also renting a car and driving to Port Angeles. The drive is about 2.5-3 hours, depending on route, and you can either drive around to the Tacoma Narrows or drive up into Seattle and take a ferry to Bainbridge. Besides that, there's a number of bus-shuttle options that go to Port Angeles. Olympic Bus Lines is one, and much cheaper than Kenmore Air. Rocket Transportation is another. You can also brave the public transit system; I'm not sure how all the scheduling works (I'll look it up and write another article when I get a chance) but basically, you'd be taking the King County bus from Seatac to the Seattle-Bainbridge ferry dock, Kitsap County bus to Poulsbo, Jefferson County bus to Sequim, and Clallam County bus to Port Angeles. You could come in via Canada, if you want to deal with customs repeatedly; it's possible to fly from many international destinations to Victoria BC, and there's a ferry directly from Victoria to Port Angeles (complete with car rentals near the dock.) If you're in Western Washington already, there are plenty of other ways to get here depending on where you are, but you probably know what they are. |
